PJ Hicks

Africa-based and London-trained, PJ specialises in wildlife photographic safaris with guests from all over the world, and has been fortunate enough to gain a depth and range of experience that is the lifeblood of his guiding expertise.

For me, the quest of the fine-art wildlife photographer is to capture the essence of the animal; it’s beauty and character. It is finding creative ways of combining light, composition and context that result in that image that is a talisman of the value of our natural world, to be cherished and nurtured.

Having earned his stripes as a young photographer in the urban sprawl of London, PJ found himself in Uganda, scanning the shelves of a bookshop for a coffee table photography book of the country. There was none to be found, and so it fell to him to find a publisher and travel the country, documenting its culture, wildlife and landscapes in a record that still remains today. He has subsequently had the privilege of doing the same in Tanzania, seeing the country in ways no casual observer could.
